ENLIGHTENED

Gradually, his concentration deepened and his understanding grew clearer. Through the eye of his mind he could look into the distant past. He saw that when one life came to an end, another one began; death could only kill the body, life continued by finding a new body again.
He could see that if a person was evil in one life, (s)he would go through sadness in the future. But when a person acted out of love, happiness and joy followed him/her. Through Siddhartha’s meditation, many truths came into his mind and he also learnt many untold facts of life.
On discovering the link between lives in this way, deeper and profound truths became known to him. He saw how, from the smallest speck of dust to the largest star , everything was linked together. Each and every thing was constantly being changed. Everything happened for a reason.
He also examined all the sufferings of the world. He observed how everyone was longing for pleasure, but the end result was unhappiness. People did not really understand that everything around them was constantly changing. He saw that though the people, who were  blinded by pleasure, fought, robbed and killed for the things they wanted, it would not bring them lasting contentment. He also saw individuals fighting against things they did not like . He also learnt that every time  people hurt someone, they suffered for it later.
At last, he had found the way to bring an end to all the suffering of the world. When a person could clearly see the truth – as he  himself had come across that night- all search and hatred would vanish from the person’s mind, and (s)he who would no longer bring any living being. Once the heart had been freed of hate, it would be filled with love, which would bring peace and happiness.
After Siddhartha had gained understanding of all this, his face got a bright glow. He had become fully  enlightened of the truth. He was now a Buddha. He had reached his goal! With a calm and peaceful smile, he arose from his meditation. It was morning, and the sun was rising in the east
